The Saint John Aliturgetos Church, dedicated to Saint John the Unbeliever, was built in the middle of the 14th. century. It is one of the most beautiful churches in Nessebar.

The dedication to John the Unbeliever may not have been the luckiest, as the church was severely damaged in 1913 by an earthquake.

St. John Aliturgetos is located close to the Southern harbour, South of the town gate into Old Nessebar.

Outer wall decorations on the St. John Aliturgetos Church

The church is decorated in the typical style of 14th. century churches in Nessebar, with intricate mural designs and ornamentation.

Note the use of circular glazed ceramics, here in green, on the outside walls. This is also a typical design on Nessebar churches.

The ground that the church is built on is supported by rather bombastic concrete walls, but these walls are necessary, to keep the church from sliding down onto the Southern beach across the street.
